Daria Kalinina was born in Kiev Ukraine, where she was exposed to traditional medicine from an early age. Her grandmother, Zina, would use herbs from the family garden along with pantry staples like honey and ginger to cure just about any ailment plaguing the household. Holistic medicine was simply a part of her culture. Having immigrated to the USA in 1993, Daria noticed a significant disconnect between people and nature and all its bounty living, especially living in NYC. While herbs and honey continued to be staples in her medicinal arsenal, it wasn’t until six years ago when she became ill that she became a serious student of holistic healing.
Daria spent a year sitting in doctors offices, in sterile waiting rooms, just to be poked and prodded by sharp needles, sonogram machines, icy hands, X-rays machines, MRIs and any other tool that the doctors decided would tell them the “problem”— you name it, she had it. All that, just to be disappointed when the results came back “normal.” However, being intimately connected to her body, she was aware that her body did not feel “normal,” and she knew something was terribly wrong. All she received from Western medicine were prescriptions for symptoms, which would only hide the true imbalance. That’s when she decided to take her health into her own hands, getting back to her roots-- the holistic way. There was one fact she was certain of-- no one knew her body better than she did; she had to be the one to treat it.
Daria started by reading books: books on herbs, natural remedies, diet books, and just about anything she could get her hands on. Things were starting to make sense, and she wanted to take it a step further. Having really connected to a book she read by Dr. Vasant Lad, she enrolled in Ayurvedas World, run by the wonderful Dr. Naina Marbelli. She immediately knew that she had found what she was looking for. Within three months of implementing what she was learning, her health began to improve. This fueled her motivation to deepen her knowledge and travel to Kerala, India, where she was immersed in all things Ayurveda. It was after spending a month in India that Daria knew it was her calling to help others take back their health and happiness.
Daria is dedicated to helping others achieve their optimum health through passing on her knowledge of Ayurveda, Iridology, herbology, and yoga. With these tools, she helps others discover the love and light within. She believes that our healthiest life is our best life.
